A unique facility operated by the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Service’s Office of Fire Prevention and Control, offers courses in many areas including hazardous materials, arson investigation and general fire service training. The general fire service training areas include fire suppression, technical rescue, fire equipment maintenance, incident command, fire instructor development, fire officer development, firefighter health and safety, dispatcher training, emergency medical technician (EMT), EMT refresher, and EMT pilot core material training. State sponsored National Fire Academy (NFA) courses are also available.
Houses a fully operational sprinkler laboratory, a computer room available for analyzing fires or predicting the flow of a hazardous materials plume, a large table-top simulator for command training, confined space simulator, self-contained breathing apparatus training maze, and a three-story burn building. Library has an extensive collection of fire-related materials including books, periodicals, technical papers, manufacturers information, and videotapes.
Also offers National Certification testing for Firefighter I and II, Fire Instructor I and II, and Fire Officer I and II. Additional National Certifications will become available each year.
Speakers from across the country come to keep firefighters up-to-date on the latest trends in the field.
Several seminars are held each year to continue education and interaction with different groups. Among them the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) EMS, Fire Police, Fire/Arson Investigation, County Fire Coordinator’s, and the Regional Fire Administrator’s Seminar. Additionally, an annual Public Fire Safety Education Program and a Women Firefighters Weekend are also held.
Available to volunteer and career firefighters, members of large and small departments, men and women, includes all accommodations to make any stay pleasant. Meals and lodging are available at an affordable price. And the facility is handicapped accessible.
There are plenty of places to go to during off-hours, including a lounge, TV room, activity center, exercise room and fitness trail.
