Fire Protection Technology

The Fire Protection Technology A.A.S. program prepares students for positions in the field of fire prevention and protection. Courses are taught by faculty with real-world experience. The program features a blend of SUNY General Education and Liberal Arts requirements along with coursework specific to fire prevention and protection. This program promotes critical thinking, professionalism, and ethical responsibility. With specific advisement, the program may also prepare students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related programs.

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Students will understand the basic principles of firefighting.
2. Students will understand fire behavior and the chemistry of fire.
3. Students will understand the history and structure of laws in the United States.
4. Students will understand the functions of line and staff personnel within the fire service organization.

Not Accepting New Students

If you’re looking for a career in the fire service, the AAS degree in Fire Protection Technology is for you. This program prepares graduates for careers in firefighting, fire detection and prevention, and arson investigation.
