Name Streets to Honor Fireman and Auxiliary Cops Killed on Job

Chief Leader

Among the more-than 84 co-named streets the City Council announced Sept. 25, three of them honor uniformed members killed in the line of duty.

Firefighter Joseph Graffagnino, who was killed last August in the Deutsche Bank building fire by Ground Zero, will be honored on the southwest corner of 77th St. and 13th Ave. in Queens. Mr. Graffagnino was posthumously promoted to Lieutenant. He was killed along with Firefighter Robert Beddia, both of whom were based at a firehouse in Soho.

Auxiliary Police Officers Nicholas Pekearo and Yevgeniy Marshalik were fatally shot in March 2007 by an assailant they had attempted to apprehend after he killed a man working in a restaurant in Greenwich Village.

Their names will adorn a street sign at the northeast corner of Sullivan St. and Bleecker St., nearby where the incident occurred.
