NYC Firefighters Save Drowning Woman

Associated Press

AP - Three firefighters are credited with saving the life of a drowning pregnant woman in New York Harbor.

People on land summoned Lt. Michael Finer and Firefighters Timothy Moynihan and Michael Lambert for the dramatic rescue around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman somehow ended up off Battery Park, in water up to 50 feet deep and about 65 degrees.

Says Moynihan: "She was going under ... for the very last time."

Finer saw the woman's arm in his spotlight beam. Lambert pulled their boat alongside her, and Moynihan went in.

By that time, says Moynihan, "She was under water. I got her by the hair. ... She was barely conscious."

The father of three says it's just "a day in the life of New York City fireman."
