Two Killed In Manhattan Apartment Fire

NY 1

Two people are dead after an apartment fire in Manhattan late last night.

The Fire Department says flames broke out on the third floor of a five-story building on East 93rd Street near Second Avenue shortly after midnight.

"Inside the apartment there was heavy charring on the third-floor fire apartment, indicating there was a lot of fire upon arrival," said FDNY Deputy Chief Jay Jonas.

Firefighters put the flames out within a half hour.

The identities of the two people killed have not yet been released. Two firefighters also suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
